How to Wear the Explorer Trend

I think I need to make an apology – to the boyfriend- after mocking his walking boots that he casually planned to wear to a gig that evening – due to the heavy snow fall! My first confession is that the snow boots (which we now refer to them as) prevented me from falling, as we made our way down an extremely steep hill, wearing non grip lace boots that certainly were not suitable for the severe weather conditions and route to the venue. The chunky, masculine hiking boots that many designers are predicting as the perfect winter boots for 2013 – leads me to my second apology! Please don’t tell him!

A concept witnessed throughout the collections during each fashion week was the brave explorer dressed ready to hike through a terrible blizzard. In Bally’s collection, fur hats, mittens and boots are teamed with warm, insulated coats and backpacks in preparation for their harsh trip ahead. Although this may seem a tad too overdressed for a weekend away, there are elements of this look that can easily be worn. The grey cable knit jumper paired with the wool check trousers is a more subtle way of wearing Bally’s vision. The outfit will definitely keep you warm and adding a pair of black lace up hiking boots will be a stylish yet practical choice of shoe in the winter months.

For those who opt for formal, work attire then Louis Vuitton autumn/winter collection is one to turn to. A slightly less chunky version of the robust boot is teamed with smart check trousers, a maroon knitted jumper with a matching slouchy hat and glove set. The outfit is finished with a navy satchel, a perfect outfit to be worn to work – without having to bring a change of shoes. If your choice of career requires a traditional trouser suit then Canali’s designs ensures that the trend can easily adapt. Teaming a classic suit with a slim, patent style boot, stylish leather gloves and a double breasted overcoat that boasts a subtle fur collar; ensures that the trends requirements are met.

TOPMAN

If your style steers towards a more casual, contemporary look then Topman Design and Hermes add a fun, bold aesthetic to the explorer trend. Hermes revamps the traditional black hiking boots with orange and yellow neon laces; a vibrant, bright touch to the black, navy colour palette of the collection. This interpretation can be easily adapted to existing boots that are in desperate need of a makeover. Topman Design use colour blocking to express the inner explorer. The strong hiking boots are available in white, red and yellow with knits, coats and trousers to match. On my first encounter with Topman Designs collection, I was unsure however; looking closely individual items will look great teamed with a simple pair of dark jeans or neutral knits.

Is the exciting explorer trend a reaction to the harsh climate that seems to deteriorate year after year? Are these collections a prediction of 2013-2014’s winter season? If this proves to be true there will be no need to fret, Louis Vuitton, Bally and Topman Design have a stylish yet practical solution to suit everyone! I may be investing in a pair of neon laces for the boyfriend – although he probably already has a pair – unaware of how stylish he really is!
