Shaving wet is something I have done for the last 20 years, I prefer it to electric shaving due to better and long lasting results. I am lazy when it comes to shaving and I only shave twice a week and I don’t mind the occasional stubble. I have been super brand loyal for years, but about two weeks ago I got contacted by Wilkinson to see if I was keen to test the new Hydro 5 Razor. This razor is engineered to offer improved skin protection whilst shaving. I packed the razor with my other grooming essentials for a weekend trip away to Barcelona and here is my personal experience.
Perfect Grip
Having woken up to a gorgeous sea view from the W Barcelona hotel I was ready to start the new day with a clean shave. The first thing that I noticed when holding the Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 razor was the heavy weight, it felt solid in my hand and the grip is perfect.
5 Blades Is Now The New Shaving Norm
Over the years we have seen more and more blades added to razors and now we have 5 blades. The idea is that with one stroke you get five blade going over your skin instead of one or two. This should result in faster shaving time. And I do agree here as previously I was still stuck in pre historic times with my triple blade razor. Five blades suits me well as I am a lazy shaver and this job was done quicker than I thought. These five blades come with skin guards, preventing it from getting caught between the blades this reduces irritation.
Hydrating Gel Pools
The first innovation of the Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 are the hydrating gel pools. The gel pools are designed to last longer then lubrication strips found on other razors. The gel pools deliver 40 percent less friction than any other razor brands. I must agree that pulling the shaver over my skin was a very easy and smooth experience. My skin felt smooth and hydrated even after I finished shaving.
Flip Trimmer
Another nifty Wilkinson innovation is the flip trimmer. Can you imagine shaving near your nose or other hard to reach areas to only find the the lubrication strip or in this case the gel pools are in the way of shaving those hard to reach hairs. With a flick of the thumb you can pull the gel pools away and reveal only the 5 blades. This worked wonders around my nose area as hairs grow rightly underneath my nose.
Conclusion
This was my best wet shaving experience ever. It was done fast without any irritation and the end result was a smooth and hydrated skin. The flip trimmer made it easy for me to reach those difficult to shave areas around my nose. Wilkinson Sword have developed a fantastic product. I tested the normal version there is also a sensitive version which has Aloe Vera and Vitamin E built into the hydration gel pools.
