Holiday Bright: Finding & Wearing the Perfect Winter White
If you were asked to wear winter white to a party or just wanted to wear all white in the winter, would you know what to select? Do you know the difference between summer white and winter white? Well one is definitely heavier than the other and it should be to give you more insulation during the colder months. You won’t have to ever shy away from wearing this light monochromatic look anymore so here goes. The first thing you want to do is shop for winter fabrics.
Fabrics To Look For
The most common winter fabrics to look for would be corduroy, leather, velvet, suede, sheepskin or lambskin (shearling), wool/wool blends, and manufactured wools such as cotton, cashmere, tweed and gabardine. Make sure you’re shopping in the right places. With a little patience and a sharp eye you can find what you need. Department stores like Nordstrom, Dillards and Macys would be good places to start looking. Now what is it you’re looking for you ask? Cashmere sweaters are always a hit and novelty shirts with raised designs work well too. Paired with a pair of slacks from one of the fabric families mentioned earlier, you’ll be well on you way to looking stylishly sleek.
It’s perfectly okay to mix textures too, however try and stay within the same color family. If you’re a bit stand offish from wearing the all white look or can’t seem to find anything in your size, a pair of grey or beige pants will do just fine with coordinating pieces. Straying from the norm and wearing gray or beige instead is okay–just add a pop of white, like a shirt, scarf, coat, or other accessory to show you were paying attention. Most of all, have fun! If you would rather keep it simple, stay in one color family and play it safe but if you’re that dude that likes to get the conversation started, spike it up, add some offbeat accessory and let the partying begin!
