Heritance Ahungalla Sri Lanka – Hotel Resort On The Ocean

As my journey continued along the West Coast of Sri Lanka, I chose my next destination from the group of Aitken Spence Hotels called the Heritance Ahungalla. This luxurious beachfront resort is on the Laccadive Sea and is only 3 km from Kothduwa temple and 10 km from the Ariyapala Mask Museum. It was designed in 1981 by the most renowned architect of Sri Lanka called Geoffrey Bawa.

Once past the gates, I was driven along a road which passes a beautiful lake which leads up to the hotel. What stood out for me was some trees that were in the middle of the road and my taxi had to drive around these which was a fun experience. As I got out of the taxi, I was greeted by a spectacular view both consisting of an infinity swimming pool followed by the roaring ocean. I was then greeted by a bowl of different spices to start off my stay. They tasted amazing and I a unique way to greet guests.

This hotel consists of two very large swimming pools and depending on what room access you have, I had the option to choose between the two and that was great for both family and friends. The gardens were immaculate and the green lawn was lovely to walk on. There were plenty of seating areas to choose by. Eating and drinking options at the Heritance Ahungalla consisted of two main restaurant and four dedicated bars.

There was also an option for private beach dining, a 24-hour coffee shop, and a nightclub. Other amenities included a spa, an exercise room and two tennis courts. There are also sports facilities and bike hire. The easy access to the beach is why I chose to walk along there as much as I could.

Cuisines

I had both the buffet Breakfast and Lunch. I am normally not a fan of buffets, but on this occasion, the standard was very high. The presentation was excellent and the food looked fresh and enticing. The wealth of options I found overwhelming and exciting and it was a fabulous way to explore new dishes of the Sri Lankan cuisine. In speaking to the main chef, they pride themselves on fresh produce such as seafood and curd which is made from Buffalo milk. The curd is fresh and placed in a clay pot which can last up to four days, make sure you try it. The different types of herbs and spices are endless and the number of oil choices I could put on my salads were wonderful. One of my favourites was the cinnamon oil. There were western options as well as Sri Lankan which was wonderful food. The desserts were just brilliant and beautifully presented makes sure to try them all. For those staying here on a weekend, the Heritance Ahungalla has a unique way of serving ice-cream in big blocks.

Luxury Suite Room

I liked when I walked into the luxury suite that there was a big dedicated area where I could throw all my luggage in so it did not effect the rest of the room. This was a huge room boasting the biggest flat screen TV I have seen in a hotel. On entering the suite the modern beds were so inviting and the message was comfort. The beds were excellent in size and there were generous amounts of pillows. The decor and furniture were lovely and added to a relaxing atmosphere. I liked the additional lounges within the room perfect for me to catch up on some fashion and news. The dedicated working desk in the corner of the room was a welcoming change to work on. The balcony overlooking the pool and the ocean was like adding icing to a cake. It was lovely to sit here and watch the evening go by. The wooden parquet flooring was wonderful to walk on and made the room feel very modern and created a good feel factor.

Bathroom

The lovely modern bathroom had a powerful shower and a great big bath, which is not common in most hotels out here. The bath towels were large and fluffy and I liked the flooring too. There were nice glass bottles for washing products for your hair and body. I liked the see through glass, where I could sit in the bath and overlook the sea.

Conclusion

This hotel has an excellent reputation for returning customers. The food and the service were excellent. The staff take pride in looking after the maintenance of this hotel as if they own it themselves. They value your feedback and will go the extra mile to accommodate my requests. The views of the ocean and the tight security is why as a family travelling together, I would choose to stay here as I felt very well looked after.
